How Purely Tallow began
I’m Serena, founder of Purely Tallow Skincare.
I can’t talk about our company without first sharing how returning to an ancestral-based health approach changed my life. This journey brought me back to the basics of how we nourish our bodies and care for our skin, from the inside out.
I’ve always been the crunchy mom, skipping store-bought cereals, avoiding boxed birthday cakes, and filling our home with the cleanest products I could find. But despite my efforts, I was silently battling disordered eating, anxiety, inflammation, constant cravings, and deep exhaustion.
The Discovery That Changed Everything
One morning, I reached a breaking point. Clean labels weren’t enough, I needed true healing. That pushed me to dive deep into the science of insulin, blood sugar regulation, inflammation, and hormone balance. My search led me to original health traditions and the benefits of using natural, ancestral ingredients, not just IN our bodies, but ON them too. That changed everything!
I stripped everything back. No sugar, no synthetics, no toxins. Just real, nutrient-dense nourishment. For the first time in years, I felt grounded. The brain fog lifted. The skin cleared up. The cravings disappeared. I wasn’t just functioning, I was healing.
The Curiosity That Produced
At first, it sounded unusual... using beef fat on your skin? But once I tried it, everything changed. Tallow didn’t sit on the surface like other moisturizers. It was deeply absorbed. What started as the small kitchen experiment, with handcrafted batches tested and perfected at home, slowly grew as word spread and orders started coming in—first a few, then hundreds. Every stage of growth was supported by family members pitching in, from pouring and labeling to packing and shipping, keeping the heart of the brand rooted in care, intention, and relationships. As demand increased, the business moved into its own dedicated workshop, while remaining deeply hands-on and family-run.
What Makes Purely Tallow Different
Purely Tallow was created because even “natural” skincare wasn’t as simple as it could be. Many clean beauty products (and even other tallow-based companies) still rely on seed oils, fillers, synthetic fragrances, or trendy plant-based ingredients that sit on the surface and often do more harm than good. These formulas disrupt the skin’s natural balance and leave you chasing results that never last.
